Job Title: Managing Artistic Director
Effective Date: June 1, 2018
The Del Ray Kinderchoir is seeking a talented, energetic Managing Artistic Director who is interested in putting his or her own creative stamp on a small, thriving community children’s chorus. The successful candidate will have previously directed and managed a children’s choir program.
Founded in 2015 and based in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, VA, the Kinderchoir is comprised of 30 singers in grades 1-4. The Kinderchoir’s mission is to foster the joy of group singing with a varied repertoire in a non-competitive environment, while developing and strengthening fundamental music skills. The choir rehearses weekly for one hour during the fall and spring, and each term includes participation in a community event and culminates with a concert, generally in December and May.
The Director’s duties include, but are not limited to: handling choir applications, selecting repertoire, arranging rehearsal and concert schedules and locations, selecting and working with an accompanist, and hiring/coordinating with outside musicians as needed, as well as keeping and managing choir database, updating and distributing the choir handbook, and handling some financial transactions along with board’s treasurer. The new Director will be expected to assume his or her duties on June 1, 2018.
The Kinderchoir is a 501(c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, with whom the Director will work. While there is a great deal of autonomy in the position, the Board serves not only in a supportive role for the Director, but also as a guiding role for the organization itself. The Board envisions working with the new Managing Artistic Director to gradually expand the current Kinderchoir footprint and offer continued choral singing to children in grades 5-8 in a future arm of the organization.
Successful applicants will be required to consent to a background check.
Interested parties should submit a letter and resume to:
